Bi-Directional PIPeLINE
Cleaning Pigs
Built for reliable sealing, product displacement, cleaning performance, and operation in either pipeline direction.
Enduro bi-directional cleaning pigs are designed to maintain sealing and cleaning performance while traveling in either direction through the pipeline. These pigs are commonly used for filling, displacement, dewatering, batching, and maintenance operations where operational flexibility is critical.
What Is a Bi-Directional Cleaning Pig?
A bi-directional cleaning pig is designed to travel through a pipeline in either direction while maintaining sealing performance and cleaning capability.
Unlike traditional unidirectional pigs, bi-directional pigs are commonly used in applications where:
- flow direction changes
- displacement operations are required
- launch and receive flexibility matters
- filling and dewatering operations occur
These pigs are frequently used in maintenance programs, hydrotesting support, batching operations, and commissioning projects.
Why Operators Use Bi-Directional Pigs
Bi-directional pigs help operators simplify pipeline operations by allowing the pig to travel effectively in either direction without sacrificing sealing or cleaning performance.
This flexibility can help reduce:
- operational complexity
- pig handling requirements
- downtime
- launch and receive limitations
Common Bi-Directional Pig Applications
- Pipeline filling
- Dewatering
- Hydrotesting support
- Product displacement
- Batching operations
- Maintenance pigging
- Condensate removal
- Commissioning operations
Key Features
- Steel-Bodied Design – Available in sizes 2"–60", with replaceable components in 4-disc or 6-disc configurations.
- Fill & Displacement Ready – Ideal for use as fill and displacement pigs during hydrostatic testing, while remaining fully capable in cleaning and batching applications.
- Configurable Cleaning Options – Optional gauging plates, magnetics, and wrap-around brushes (3" and up) can be added to tailor the pig to your cleaning objectives.
- Tracking Compatible – Enduro transmitters can be installed in sizes 4" and larger (special body available for smaller sizes), enabling reliable pig tracking.
- Pipeline Tolerance – Designed to traverse
pipe reductions of up to 25%, helping maintain pig passage and performance in lines with diameter changes.

Size Range : 2” to 60”
(Custom options available for unique applications.)

Applications:
Bi-directional pigs are well-suited for:
- Hydrostatic test fill and displacement
- Product batching and separation
- General cleaning or light debris removal
- Pre-commissioning and new construction lines
- Operations where pigs may need to be run in either direction
Urethane Bi-Directional Option (UreFlex)
For smaller lines or where urethane construction is preferred, Enduro also offers Bi-Directional UreFlex Pigs:
- Size Range: 2"–12" in a 6-disc configuration
- Brush Options: Available in 6"–12" sizes
- Tracking: Enduro tracking equipment can be installed in sizes 6" and larger
- UreFlex bi-directional pigs provide a durable urethane alternative while maintaining cleaning and displacement capability
How Bi-Directional Cleaning Pigs Work
Bi-directional pigs are designed with symmetrical sealing and support elements that allow the tool to maintain contact with the pipeline wall regardless of travel direction.
Depending on the application, configurations may include:
- sealing discs
- cups
- brushes
- magnets
- bypass systems
- gauging components
Why Sealing Performance Matters
Poor sealing performance during displacement or dewatering operations can lead to:
- inefficient displacement
- trapped liquids
- product contamination
- reduced cleaning effectiveness
- operational delays
Why Operators Choose Enduro Bi-Directional Pigs
- Wide size coverage from 2" to 60"
- Flexible configuration: brushes, magnets, gauging plates, and transmitters
- Steel-bodied durability plus urethane options (UreFlex)
- Designed and supported by Enduro’s dedicated Cleaning Pig Division
- Backed by Enduro’s commitment to responsive service before, during, and after the run
Not Sure If a Bi-Directional Pig Is Right for Your Operation?
Pig selection depends on:
- pipeline configuration
- operational objectives
- displacement requirements
- product type
- cleaning goals
Our team helps operators determine the right pig configuration for the application — without overcomplicating the process.

FAQs
What’s the primary use of Bi-Directional Cleaning Pigs
They are most often used as fill and displacement pigs during hydrostatic testing, but they can also be used in unidirectional cleaning and batching runs.
Can Bi-Directional pigs be configured for more aggressive cleaning?
Yes. Optional wrap-around brushes, magnets, and gauging plates can be added to enhance cleaning performance, especially in lines with debris or scale.
Are these pigs transmitter-compatible?
Steel-bodied versions can be fitted with Enduro transmitters in sizes 4" and up, and UreFlex versions in sizes 6" and up, allowing you to use your tracking receivers and geophones for pig location.
