Learn how rebuild kits can extend the life of your cleaning pigs, reduce costs, and keep your pigging program running efficiently.

When I started in pipeline sales, I assumed most customers simply bought new pipeline pigs when the old ones wore out.

After all, we sell a lot of pigs. That part made sense.

What I didn't realize was just how valuable rebuild kits are—and how often rebuilding is actually the smarter choice.

As someone who's still relatively new to the industry compared to many of the experts I work with every day, I've learned that maintaining a successful pigging program isn't just about buying the right pig. It's about protecting that investment and knowing when rebuilding makes more sense than replacement.

Pipeline Pigs Are Built to Work Hard

Pipeline cleaning pigs operate in some of the toughest environments imaginable. Every run exposes them to abrasive debris like mill scale, sand, paraffin, black powder, and other contaminants while enduring changing pressures, temperatures, and miles of mechanical wear inside the pipeline.

Over time, wear components such as cups, discs, and brushes naturally begin to wear down. Even if the pig body itself remains in excellent condition, worn components can reduce sealing efficiency and cleaning performance.

That's where rebuild kits come in.

Replacing only the worn components can restore your pig's performance, extend its service life, and often cost significantly less than purchasing a completely new tool.

What Does a Pipeline Pig Rebuild Kit Include?

While every pig is different, rebuild kits commonly include replacement wear components such as:

  • Cups
  • Discs
  • Brushes
  • Fasteners
  • Other wear items specific to the pig design

Replacing these components restores sealing performance, improves cleaning efficiency, and helps maximize the return on your original investment.

When Should You Rebuild a Pipeline Pig?

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that the answer isn't always "buy new."

Rebuilding often makes sense when:

  • The pig body is still structurally sound.
  • Only wear components need to be replaced.
  • You want to reduce costs without sacrificing performance.
  • You need to return the tool to service quickly.
  • Replacement components are readily available.

When Is Replacement the Better Option?

Sometimes replacing the entire pig is the better decision.

Replacement may be recommended when:

  • The pig body has sustained significant damage.
  • The application or pipeline conditions have changed.
  • The pig has reached the end of its service life.
  • A different pig design would provide better cleaning performance.

The key is working with a company that evaluates your tool honestly and recommends what's best for your operation—not simply what's easiest to sell.

One Size Doesn't Fit Every Pipeline

Another thing I didn't fully appreciate when I started is just how customized pigging solutions can be.

At Enduro, we don't just supply standard cleaning pigs. We design, manufacture, rebuild, and customize pigs to match each customer's specific pipeline conditions and operational goals.

Need a custom configuration? We can do that.

Need a rebuild for a pig built by another manufacturer? We can often help with that too.

Because we keep many standard pigs, rebuild kits, and replacement components in stock, customers don't always have to wait weeks to get back up and running.

Built Right Here in Tulsa

One thing I'm especially proud of is seeing where everything comes together.

Every pig and rebuild kit is designed, manufactured, assembled, and shipped from our facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Watching our team work has given me a whole new appreciation for the experience, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that goes into every product we build.

It's not outsourced.

It's built by people who understand pipeline maintenance and take pride in helping customers keep their operations running.

Come See How It's Done

One of my favorite things we've started offering is the opportunity for customers to visit our facility.

Whether you're new to pigging or have decades of experience, we offer facility tours, technical workshops, and Pigging 101 classes where you can see firsthand how our products are designed, manufactured, rebuilt, tested, and shipped.

It's an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about pipeline maintenance, and meet the experts who build the tools you're relying on in the field.

I think seeing the process in person gives customers a different level of confidence—not only in the products, but in the people behind them.

Get More From Your Pipeline Pig Investment

With proper maintenance and timely rebuilds, many pipeline pigs can continue delivering reliable performance for years.

That means:

  • Lower operating costs
  • Less downtime
  • Longer tool life
  • Better cleaning performance
  • Greater return on your investment

As someone who's still learning from the experts around me every day, this has been one of the most valuable lessons I've picked up—and one I think every pipeline operator should know.

Not sure whether your pipeline pig should be rebuilt or replaced?

Our technical specialists can evaluate your existing tool and recommend the most cost-effective solution. Whether it's an Enduro pig or one built by another manufacturer, we'll help you determine the best path forward.
